The egg cooking question has been answered. I was assured by a work colleague that boiling an egg in a microwave was completely safe and possible as long as you put some holes in the end of it. So I did. And this was the result...
I have cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and the kitchen still smells of egg. Urgh. The microwave door actually blew open in the explosion. It was messy.
I don't recommend doing this.

Hate to say it, but I told you so!!! ha ha
Mind you it looks like I got my last comment wrong where I said it wouldn't cause anything drastic
This looks kind of fun, i'm tempted to try it!
What kind of British microwave do you have that the door blows open when cooking???
It was a powerful explosion. I forgot to mention there were 2 eggs involved. That's double the power.
I forgot to ask-- WHY did you want to microwave an egg so badly?
Well, the oven wasn't working. And I really wanted a boiled egg...I probably should of waited the two days until the oven was fixed..
